Emily Elizabeth Thomas is an award winning writer/director based in Brooklyn, New York.
She was raised in Austin, TX and proudly maintains a strong presence in the Texas film community. A true cowgirl at heart, Emily brings authentic Southern grit to every project.

Emily is a classically trained screenwriter and filmmaker. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Master of Arts from New York. She began writing, directing and producing her own films from a young age.

Her work has been award winning at festivals such as The Oslo Independent Film Festival, The Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival, and The Alabama George Lindsay Film Festival. She has been featured by Milk Studios, Free The Bid, Film Threat, Director's Notes, Black Book, Ad Age, Shots, Purple Magazine, and more.

At the foundation of her directorial practice is the true grit of independent movie making, color and design, and unyielding commitment to the craft and art of storytelling. Emily's goal as a director is to push the edges, MAKE YOU FEEL, and disrupt the systems of power which keep women and minorities down.

Most recently, Emily directed ‘The Gathering’, a branded short film for the Brooklyn Film Festival which raises the specter for sexual misconduct in Hollywood, and saw extensive press coverage both in the United States, and globally.

Next, Emily will complete her anthology of short films titled ‘The Texas Trilogy’, with the last install-ment. She is also writing her first feature - a drama which explores motherhood and loss, and which bends the lines between the real, and magic.
